Rats and mice cause huge problems on a poultry farm, as every farmer knows. Rodents love to make commercial poultry facilities their home because of the vast amounts of shelter, food, and water those buildings provide. Rats and mice will eat chicken feed, gnaw holes in housing, and chew through electrical wiring. This can spoil the food, ruin equipment, and even start fires. The diseases rodents can carry are potentially even more dangerous: salmonella, fowl cholera, and erysipelas are just a few of them.
Each year, rodents cost UK farmers an estimated £16-25 million worth of damage. Here’s another fun fact: a female mouse produces 50-60 offspring per year; a female rat, up to 70. Mice are ready to reproduce in just six weeks, and rats, in three months. As a result, mice and rat populations increase exponentially.
That’s why you need to stop rodent infestations as soon as you detect them. A small investment in rodenticide can save you hundreds of pounds in repairs. Here are some of our most popular rodent control products:
Roban Pasta Bait
These are “teabag”-style sachets containing the anti-coagulant difenacoum, combined with wheat and fats, which rats & mice will eat quickly. The bags are easy to attach with a wire or nail, or can be placed in a trap. The sachet is edible so that rodents will eat through it.
Rodex Whole Wheat
This is a whole-wheat rodenticide. It’s designed to be highly palatable so that rats or mice will eat a large quantity at once. It uses the second-generation anticoagulant bromadioline.
This is a baited mouse trap with two entrances. The rodent walks down a small tunnel and eats bait from a hopper. Clear tubes hold the bait and give you a clear indication of how much has been eaten. This one may be better suited for mice, which are naturally more inquisitive.
Prevention is better than cure so keep on top of your rodenticide before your poultry farm turns into a rodent farm.
